Conference talk @ St Catherines

カナダ・セントキャサリンズの Brock University で開かれた「カナダ教父学会」年次集会 (24-26 May) において、研究成果を発表しました。学会2日目 (May 25) のセッション 7 Group Identity in Late Antiquity において、Prof. Steven Muir (Concordia University College of Alberta) の司会のもとで話した論文のタイトルは、以下の通りです。

CSPS 2014

例年、Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences の傘のもとで開かれる「カナダ教父学会」の年次集会ですが、なぜか今年は直前の NAPS と重なってしまい（2010年にモントリオールで開かれたこの学会に参加して以来はじめての経験です）、初日のプログラムに参加することができませんでした。年次集会がオタワで開かれる来年は、オクスフォード国際教父学会が開かれるため通例 NAPS が行われないので、全日参加することができるでしょう。

追記：その後の研究プロジェクトの展開と修正によって、オタワでの CSPS には参加しないことに決めました。残念ですが、2016年にカルガリーで開かれる研究集会には参加したいと考えています。

Conference talk @ Chicago

アメリカ・シカゴの Hyatt Regency Chicago （これまでの Holiday Inn Mart Plaza から会場移動）で開かれた「北米教父学会」年次集会 (22-24 May) において、研究成果を発表しました。学会初日 (May 22) 夕方のセッション18 Transformation through paideia and Ritual において、Prof. Dennis Trout (University of Missouri) の司会のもとで話した論文のタイトルは、以下のとおりです。

NAPS 2014

当日の会場で配布した論文原稿をあとになって入手した在ベルギーの研究者から、帰国後にメールを受け取り、その後のやりとりを通して、あたらしい研究交流の可能性を検討することになりました。まずは、2015年8月にオクスフォードで開かれる国際教父学会に申し込む予定の北アフリカのキリスト教思想の展開を主題とするワークショップへの参加を誘われたので、現在その準備に着手したところ。

KU Leuvern International Conference ‘PERSPECTIVES ON LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN EARLY CHRISTIANITY’

Proposals for papers, preferably in English or French, counting between 600 and 700 words, and followed by a selective list of bibliographical references, should be submitted to the organizers (contact: Tim.Denecker@arts.kuleuven.be) before November 1, 2014. Notification of acceptance will be given by February 1, 2015. A selection of papers will be published in a peer-reviewed book volume.

APECSS 9th Conference

4-6 September 2014

The 9th Asia-Pacific Early Christian Studies Society (APECSS) Conference will take place on the Yokohama Campus, Toyo-Eiwa University, Yokohama, Japan, from 4 to 6 September 2014. The Society welcomes all proposals that explore any theme relevant to the early Christian world from the New Testament to the end of Late Antiquity, and especially those that focus on this year’s theme: Life and Death in Early Christianity.The deadline for proposals is 30 April 2014.

St Andrew’s Patristic Symposium 2014

26-27 September 2014

The symposium primarily explores the connections between the Alexandrian and the Cappadocian traditions in Late Antiquity, more precisely the ways in which the two centres influenced each other. Papers focused on particular figures are likewise welcomed. For the papers focused on particular figures, they can address the life, personality and contributions of the earlier Alexandrines and St Athanasius, the Cappadocians and St Cyril, from various perspectives, such as historical, theological, literary, spiritual etc. Papers on events, persons and writings directly or indirectly related to the above are also welcome. We welcome, likewise, papers on Church Fathers that are not connected with either Alexandria or Cappadocia. Proposals should be submitted to Very Rev. Dr Doru Costache at (dcostache@sagotc.edu.au) by 30 April 2014.

International Conference on North African Patristic Sermons

8-10 April 2015

The research units History of Church and Theology and Literary Studies: Latin Literature of the University of Leuven will organise, in collaboration with the Augustinian Historical Institute of Malta, an International Conference on North African Patristic Sermons on 8-10 April 2015. The deadline for proposals is 1 June 2014.

Seminar talk @ Brisbane

オーストラリア・ブリスベンのオーストラリアカトリック大学初期キリスト教研究センターにおいて開かれた研究所年次集会 Annual Meeting of the Centre for Early Christian Studies, Australian Catholic University において、研究代表者の上村が刊行した研究報告書について以下の発表を行なうとともに、海外研究協力者 Pauline Allen 教授、また集会に参加した研究所メンバーと意見の交換を行ないました。

2日間にわたって開かれたミーティングでは，今年度から始まった科研費プロジェクトの概要についての短いペーパーを読みました。一方，オーストラリア側からは進行中の Religious Conflict プロジェクトの状況について報告されるとともに，新しくスタートすると告知されている Institute of Religion and Critical Enquiry について紹介されましたが、この体制の変更が現在活発に行なわれている研究所の活動に対してどれほど貢献するのか、疑念を持たざるをえませんでした。APECSS の活動については、2015 Tokyo, 2016 St Petersburg, 2017 Brisbane での開催予定が報告されました。

Conference talk @ Melbourne

オーストラリア・メルボルンの ACU St Patrick’s Campus で開かれた「初期キリスト教学会 Early Christian Centuries」第1回学会 (3-5 October 2013) において、研究代表者の上村、分担者の佐藤がそれぞれ研究を発表しました。学会初日 (October 3) の 1Bセッション “Patristic Exegesis on the Creation of Male and Female” において、Doru Costache博士の司会のもとで、佐藤が発表し、学会第２日 (October 4) の 4Bセッション “Hagiography: The Ascetic Life in Text” において、Malcolm Choat博士の司会のもとで、上村が発表を行ないました。それぞれの発表タイトルは、以下の通りです。

ECC 2013

久しぶりのメルボルン訪問。今回は学会（これまでの名称 Prayer and Spirituality in the Early Church から変更）にさきだって、研究所のメンバーと相互にプロジェクトの進捗状況等について打ち合わせ、学会初日は、St. Paul’s Cathedral において、Mozart’s Requiem Concernt。カンファレンスディナーは、メルボルンクラブ、あいかわらず豪奢な雰囲気。旅程上出発までの時間があったのでスーツケースを引きずりながら Melbourne Zoo をたずねて、はじめて南半球固有の動物たちに会いました。
ECC 2013

あまり陽気がよくなかったせいか、活動的な動物はミーアキャットのみで、カンガルーは横たわったまま。飼育されているわけではない、園内を歩いていたカモの親子連れの行列のヒナにちょっかいをだそうとした男の子が、なんどもトライ、さきに行っているお父さんにくりかえし呼び戻され、最後はカモの親にギャアと威嚇されると同時に、「クリスチャン！！！」と怒鳴られて、かわいそうな顛末。それから、はじめてクジャクが羽を広げているさまを後ろから眺めて、裏側の仕組みに納得。

カナダ・ビクトリアのビクトリア大学で開かれた「カナダ教父学会 Canadian Society of Patristic Studies」年次集会において、研究代表者の上村が研究を発表しました。学会三日目 (June 5) の第9セッション Latin Fathers において、Dr. Ariane Magny の司会のもとで行なった発表のタイトルは、つぎのとおりです。

CSPS 2013

今回はなぜか Canadian Congress の日程が後ろに移動、NAPS がおわってから10日空いてしまい、授業を3回続けて休講にするわけにもいかなかったので、NAPS 終了後いったん日本に戻って、再度カナダ西海岸に飛ぶという日程、友人との会話のあいだに hectic と言われて、呆れられました。バンクーバ到着後、ヴィクトリアにはフェリーで渡ってから大学到着、美しいキャンパスでした。短かったとはいえ、この大きさのフェリーに乗っての船旅ははじめての経験でした。

NAPS 2012

これまでに参加した NAPS での発表と今回の発表が異なるのは，特定のテーマによって組まれたセッションにはじめて参加したことです。NAPS の場合は，申し込みの段階でセッション・テーマと発表者まで決めて申請するパタンとテーマのみ決めて発表者を公募するパタンがあって，今回は後者のセッションに申し込み受理されました。自由に自分が論じたいテーマを決めて発表を申し込むのとちがって、テーマが制限されますが，こうした機会を活かして自分の問題関心を接続し拡大する手立てとして学会を利用するということも必要だろうと思った次第です。そうした刺激によって、固まりがちな自分の研究の枠組みを壊すためにも、今後もセッションに積極的に参加してみたいと考えています。

韓国・ソウルの Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary で開かれた「アジア太平洋初期キリスト教研究学会 Asia-Pacific Early Christian Studies Society」第7回学会において、研究代表者の上村、分担者の佐藤がそれぞれ研究を発表しました。学会二日目 (July 6) の第3セッション Augustine において、出村和彦教授の司会のもとで行なった発表のタイトルは、以下の通りです。

APECSS 2012

二回目の韓国訪問でした。はじめて当地で開かれる APECSS ということで招聘元がたいへんに力を入れて準備を整えてくれ、快適な学会でした。セッションの発表においては、日本からの若手の発表についてあらかじめサポートし、なんとかはじめての国際学会発表をおこなうことができ、一安心でした。エクスカージョンで訪れた国立博物館の収蔵品はすばらしいものでした。また、カンファレンスディナーでは、伝統の宮廷料理の一旦をうかがうことができ、文化の伝統に強い印象を受けました。

カナダ・ウォータールーのウィルフレッド・ローリエ大学で開かれた「カナダ教父学会 Canadian Society of Patristic Studies」年次集会において、研究代表者の上村が研究を発表しました。学会初日 (May 29) の第１セッション Pauline Commentators において、Dr. Paul Smith の司会のもとで行なった発表のタイトルは、つぎのとおりです。

CSPS 2012

NAPS に参加したのち、Pauline と彼女の親友の3人でレヴァニーズ料理の店で会食し、その翌日にカナダに向かいました。すでに CSPS では多くの知り合いができたので、濃密な時間を過ごすことができました。Congress の期間中は大学内宿舎に泊まることが通例になっていて、そのかわりに街中を散策するということはなく、かえってのんびりとした時間を過ごすことができるのは得難い経験です。
